Spiced Margarita

Joan Villanueva, the beverage curator at BO-beau kitchen + caché in San Diego, sees a lot of application for amaretto with bold and spicy flavors like mezcal, tequila and rye. In this Margarita version, amaretto stands in for orange liqueur, and muddled jalapeño slices lend a touch of lip-tingling heat.

  • 1 wedge Lime
  • 3 wheels Jalapeño
  • 2 oz Blanco tequila
  • 3/4 oz Amaretto
  • 1 oz Fresh lime juice
  • Garnish: Salt rim
  • Garnish: Lime wheel
  1. Rub half of the outside of a rocks glass with a lime wedge, dip in salt to coat and set aside.

  2. Add the jalapeño wheels into a shaker and gently muddle.

  3. Add the tequila, amaretto, lime juice and ice and shake until well-chilled.

  4. Strain into the prepared glass over fresh ice.

  5. Garnish with a lime wheel.
